The Over Stayer is a musical project spearheaded by Wild Bill Ricketts (The Phoenix Foundation) and Mara TK (Electric Wire Hustle). For one incredible evening, Friday, October 12, The Promised Band – featuring some of Wellington’s greatest musicians - will be performing the songs from Wild Bill Ricketts’ albums, John Dryden, Ricketts Meets Fabulous and West Wind.



The promised band consists of Ricketts (vibraphone and percussion) and Mara TK (vocals) will be joined by Riki Gooch (drums), Toby Laing (trumpet/keys), Joe Lindsay (tuba/trombone), Lucien Johnson (reeds), Dan Yeabsley (reeds/flute), Adam Page (reeds), Sam Lindsay (guitar), Chris Yeabsley (keys) and Tom Callwood (bass).


With support from Louis Baker, Adam Page and DJ entertainment from Evil Genius this promises to be an unforgettable experience, music painted indelibly across the vast canvas of sound.

"My residency is not in question. It was granted to me in 1981 when my parents moved here with me, to teach at Victoria university. As I never applied for citizenship untill recently, I always thought it would be a formality having been to creche, primary, secondary school and and university here.



The reason that the Department of Internal Affairs were to recommend to the minister that my application for citizenship be declined was based on a matter of days out of the country performing Nz music. Funny when I was still paying rent, bills and tax here during that time away.



The small population in New Zealand makes it hard to earn enough for many to sustain a living in arts
film, sports ect, so international development is crucial. So when the DIA said to me, reapply in 5 years if you are in the country enough (ie cant be out of the country more than four months a year) this
seems counter productive and policy that is potentially holding back growth for
